3 Top Tips For Booking Your Wedding Photographer

When it comes to choosing your wedding photographer, where do you start? We asked the super talented Toby from Toby Lowe Photography to share with us his ‘Top Tips’ on planning your wedding photography and here’s what he said…

“A quick question. Do you enjoy having your photo taken? If you answered no, don’t worry, you are in good company. It really is something that is incredibly common. In everyday life, how used are any of us to having a photographer following us throughout the day? I believe wedding photography should always feel natural, relaxed and unposed. With this in mind, here are my three top tips for ensuring you get the best from your wedding photography.

Firstly, make the right choice. When you first meet your wedding photographer, spend time with them talking through not just the running order for the day, but also their approach to capturing your wedding. The way the photographer works will make a big difference to how at ease you are with them on the day and the pictures they get as a result. Confidence in the photographers ability and approach takes away a lot of the pressure from being photographed.

Next, ignore the camera. This may sound counter intuitive, but your photographer is there to record the day as it happens. By relaxing and enjoying the day, the photographer can concentrate on documenting the day as it unfolds. Knowing that you do not need to ‘play’ to the camera really takes the pressure off. A good wedding photographer will know where to be to get the right shots at the right time.

Finally, it sounds like such an easy thing to say, but remember to breathe. The more relaxed you are, the more natural your images will be. You should only notice your photographer when they need you too. The rest of the time they should be blending into your day.

Your wedding images are the lasting document of the day. Follow these tips and you will be on the right track to getting effortless, natural and relaxed photographs.”
